Cisco to Middle East: Artificial Intelligence Developments Must Align with Saudi Market Expectations

Cisco Saudi Arabia Director: Digital Transformation Must Be Secure.
As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia embarks on its ambitious path toward digital transformation in line with the objectives of "Vision 2030", Cisco Saudi Arabia plays a pivotal role in this technological renaissance through strategic initiatives and a commitment to innovation, laying the foundation for a future where digital empowerment is not just a goal, but a reality.

In an exclusive interview with "Al Sharq Al Awsat" from Riyadh, Salman Faqeeh, the Managing Director of Cisco Saudi Arabia, details the company's multifaceted approach to enhancing the technological landscape in the Kingdom, stating that Cisco not only keeps pace with global technology trends, from integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its solutions to fostering collaboration in generative AI but also ensures that these developments are meaningful and aligned with the expectations of the Saudi market. By leveraging the power of AI-based WebEx in a secure manner, Cisco aims to revolutionize how companies and individuals collaborate, breaking down geographical barriers and fostering a more connected world.

Cybersecurity and AI

With the acceleration of digital transformation, cybersecurity emerges as a significant concern. In his interview with "Al Sharq Al Awsat," Salman Faqeeh acknowledges the dual nature of AI in cybersecurity, recognizing its potential to enhance defense mechanisms and present new challenges. Cisco's strategic focus on utilizing AI in cybersecurity reflects a deep understanding of the digital landscape. Faqeeh states that the company's global vision and proactive approach to monitoring digital traffic enable it to provide unparalleled intelligence and early warning systems to its clients, ensuring the safety of their digital assets.

Faqeeh asserts that Cisco's investment in establishing two data centers in Saudi Arabia stands as a testament to its dedication to enhancing the digital infrastructure in the Kingdom. These centers are designed to offer collaboration and cloud services not only to the Saudi market but to the entire region.

The Journey Toward Digital Acceleration

Cisco's engagement in the Saudi market is not a new venture. With over 27 years of operation in the Kingdom, Cisco has been a consistent partner in technological advancement, aligning more closely with "Vision 2030" and participating in the state's digital acceleration program. After successfully completing two cycles of this global initiative in the Kingdom, Cisco is preparing for a third cycle, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (ICT). Faqeeh mentions to "Al Sharq Al Awsat" from Riyadh that this program is designed to support the digital economy, continue the journey of digital transformation, and utilize the latest technologies to meet market expectations and improve the quality of life for Saudi citizens.

Faqeeh also expresses pride in Cisco's ability to operate within the dynamic environment of the Saudi market, guided by clear key performance indicators and priorities set by the Saudi government. He states that the company's strategy includes engaging with various sectors, including healthcare and education, to accelerate their digital transformation. By tailoring its approach to the unique needs of each entity, Cisco ensures that its solutions are not only technologically advanced but also meaningful and relevant to the business priorities of its partners and clients.

Commitment to Development and Capacity Building

Beyond technological advancement, Cisco is strongly committed to sustainability and learning and development. Faqeeh points out that the Cisco Networking Academy serves as a cornerstone in his company's commitment to community development. This global program has made significant strides in Saudi Arabia, impacting over a third of a million young Saudis in the past two decades. Faqeeh emphasizes that women constitute over 35% of these participants, highlighting the program's role in promoting gender diversity in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics within the Kingdom.

Cisco's efforts to achieve net-zero emissions and promote the use of green energy reflect its dedication to environmental stewardship. The company's engagement with its clients and partners extends to ensuring the achievement of their sustainability goals, showcasing a comprehensive approach to its environmental responsibility.

Sustainability Efforts

Cisco's strategic initiatives represent a comprehensive effort to support digital transformation in the Kingdom. The company's investments in technology, infrastructure, and human capital align with "Vision 2030", which aims to create a digitally enabled society.
