$66.3mln hi-tech hospital on way in Bahrain's A’ali

It will be the first eco-friendly solar-run hospital in Bahrain
Work is set to begin on a new BD25 million state-of-the-art eco-friendly hospital in A’ali.

The new twin complex of the King Hamad American Mission Hospital will consist of a maternity and children’s hospital and a 100-bed multi-specialty unit.

It will be the first eco-friendly solar-run hospital in Bahrain. It will also be the first to introduce a hybrid operating system involving robots on a large-scale capacity.

The American Mission Hospital (AMH) and Smart Skyline Contractors yesterday signed an agreement for construction of the King Hamad American Mission Hospital in A’ali.

The deal was signed at the AMH headquarters in Manama and attended by AMH corporate chief executive officer Dr George Cheriyan, Smart Skyline Contractors chairman Saud Kanoo, chief executive Syed Afroz and Aref Sadeq Design Consultants chief executive Yasser Sadiq.

“The BD25m state-of-the-art facility is set to open in 2022 as we now sign the contract for construction work to begin after readying the site,” said Dr Cheriyan.

“This hospital is a futuristic concept that we want going for 25 years.

“This is why we have introduced new ideas like a hybrid system that includes medical robots and a helipad that we will rely on as roads become more choked with traffic.

“The hospital will be fully digitalised and would focus on providing medical intervention for people at home.”

The new hospital became the first eco-friendly facility in Bahrain after signing a $1m agreement to install a solar system on its premises last year.

AMH has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Bahrain (RCSI) to provide clinical teaching for medical and nursing students through the new hospital.

The Reformed Church in America co-owns the enterprise, which runs under a government ministry.

AMH currently has four facilities in Amwaj, Manama, Saar and Riffa and, when the new hospital opens in A’ali, more than 1,000 staff members will wear the AMH badge.
