Adoption of Makkah Convention will recover proceeds of crimes to their origin countries
Mazen Al-Kahmous, president of the Control and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), said that the adoption of Makkah Convention would contribute in recovering the proceeds of crimes to their origin countries.
Al-Kahmous made the remarks in his speech during the First Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies of the OIC Member States to adopt the Makkah Convention.
The convention was held in Jeddah under the patronage of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. He welcomed Excellencies, heads, and representatives of international organizations to the meeting.
He said that the adoption of Makkah Convention by member states would establish a new phase of strengthening cooperation in the field of combating corruption to serve common interests and achieve more development and prosperity, and it will set an example to follow.
Al-Kahmous noted that this is a step consistent with the contents of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and reflects the seriousness of member states of the organization, as the second largest international organization after the United Nations.
He added that the meeting is a confirmation of the activation of the organization's charter, which states to combat corruption, money laundering and organized crime, and to embody the strong relations between Islamic countries and achieve the desired goals.
He also indicated that the adoption of the agreement reflects the realization of the member states of the organization that corruption is a transnational crime and cannot be combated without the cooperation of member states to contribute to reducing safe havens for the corrupt, and recovering proceeds of crimes.
During the meeting, Al-Kahmous stressed that Saudi Arabia, led by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed, supports the efforts to combat corruption at the local and international levels, confirming that the combating corruption is one of the most crucial pillars of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
