Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, known as Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, passed away on February 4, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 88. Born on December 13, 1936, in Geneva, Switzerland, he became the spiritual leader of approximately 15 million Ismaili Muslims worldwide in 1957, succeeding his grandfather, Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan, at the age of 20. His death has prompted tributes from global leaders and organizations.

The announcement of his successor is expected following the reading of his will.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren.
