Airport worker’s Delta variant identical to previous imported cases
The Delta variant of Covid-19 detected from the 27-year-old male airport worker was said to be identical to previous imported cases in the city, the Centre for Health Protection reported.
The three imported cases were said to have arrived in Hong Kong from Indonesia via CX798 in the morning of June 11 with all three of them detected to have the L452R mutant strain.
Two of them tested positive by their specimens collected at the airport’s Temporary Specimen Collection Centre (TSCC).
According to the preliminary investigations, the 27-year-old had received cargo flight crews at the airport and had stayed in the TSCC for work in the morning on the same day.
The CHP said it is now following up further on the possible mode of transmission amongst the relevant cases.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong has seen four Covid cases today, all imported.
The two men and two women, aged 20 to 56, arrived in Hong Kong from Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Austria respectively.
The two men and two women, aged 22 to 49, arrived in Hong Kong from Indonesia, Bangladesh, and the UK respectively.
The city’s Covid tally now stands at 11,910, along with 210 related deaths.
