Arab League condemns Israeli president’s entry to Al-Ibrahimi Mosque

The Arab League condemned on Sunday the “desecrating entry” of Israeli President Isaac Herzog to the Haram Al-Ibrahimi Mosque in the occupied city of Al-Khalil.
The Arab League stated that the entry reflects continuous attempts by Jews in Palestine to making the Islamic and Christian holy places their own.

These bids started after the historic massacre that took place at Al-Ibrahimi Mosque in Ramadan of 1994 that killed 29 people during Fajr prayers.

The Arab league pointed out that the city of Khalil is occupied by 400 Israeli settlers around the perimeter of the mosque compound, saying these settlers often use violence against Palestinian citizens with the help of the occupation Israeli forces.

On the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, the Arab League affirmed that the UN and humanitarian organizations should take a stand against the situation of forced entries into the sanctities by the Israeli occupiers.

Oct. 31, 2021, the Israeli army closed the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, a city south of the West Bank, to all Muslims in an earlier atrocity against the faithful.

The mosque director, Sheikh Hafthi Abu Sneineh, then has said that the Israeli army only allowed Jewish settlers to visit the site for the Chayei Sarah occasion.

The Israeli army closes off the Mosque for Muslims during Jewish holidays, which also prevents them from accessing the courtyards. In September, the Ibrahimi Mosque was closed by Israeli authorities during the Jewish New Year, where the decision was condemned by Palestinian officials, who judged the move to be an attack on basic human rights.

The Old City of Hebron, in which the Ibrahimi Mosque is located, was deemed a World Heritage Site in 2017 by UNESCO.

Hebron’s Ibrahimi Mosque is believed to be the burial site of the prophets Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and where both Muslims and Jews worship.
