Brazil has recalled its ambassador to Israel, Frederico Meyer, amid rising tensions between the two nations over Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

This follows a February accusation by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who condemned the Israeli government for 'genocide.' In retaliation, Israel labeled President Lula 'persona non grata.' The diplomatic spat deepened when Meyer was summoned to a meeting at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial center in Jerusalem, described as a humiliation.

In response to these events, Brazil not only recalled Meyer but also summoned Israel’s representative in Brasilia.

Until further notice, Brazilian diplomat Fabio Farias will head their representation in Israel.
