A British couple who had been detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan has been freed and has now arrived safely in Qatar.

The pair was received by officials in Doha following diplomatic efforts that secured their release.

Their arrival ends a months-long ordeal and highlights Qatar’s growing role as a mediator in regional and international disputes.
