Escalating Global Tensions: From Libya’s Crackdown to US-Israel Relations and India’s Internal Strife

Libya’s eastern forces intensify crackdown on dissidents with arbitrary detentions; US calls for changes in Israeli military practices after death of dual national in West Bank protest.
Amnesty International has revealed that Libya’s eastern-based forces under Khalifa Haftar's command have stepped up their crackdown on dissidents, with arbitrary detentions and at least two deaths in custody being reported; this paints a troubling picture in a region plagued by instability.

Meanwhile, in the Middle East, the US government, with top officials expressing concern, is calling for changes to Israeli military practices after the tragic death of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a dual national, during a protest in the West Bank; the family demands an independent investigation as tensions rise over how the case has been handled.

Shifting to domestic affairs, the University of Georgia is facing a civil rights complaint from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which accuses it of discrimination against Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim students; the university insists it supports free speech and non-discrimination despite the allegations.

In a notable international development, Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, speaking in Washington, condemned the ideological conflict in India under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, urging a pluralistic approach and criticizing Modi's handling of China-India border issues; this highlights ongoing political frictions within India.

Back in India, the situation in Manipur remains tense with an internet blackout and an indefinite curfew following violent student protests against alleged drone attacks by Kuki militants; the unrest reflects deeper ethnic tensions that have resulted in significant casualties and displacements since last year.

On the US political front, a fiery debate unfolded in Philadelphia between Republican Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, with both candidates clashing on abortion, the economy, immigration, and Trump's legal issues; as the election nears, this debate underscores the heated and high-stakes nature of the race in a battleground state.
