Five Saudis, 198 foreigners evacuated from Sudan arrive in Jeddah

Five Saudis, 198 foreigners evacuated from Sudan arrive in Jeddah

Five Saudi nationals and 198 foreigners evacuated from Sudan arrived in Jeddah on Wednesday following their evacuation from the country, Saudi state news agency SPA reported.
The evacuation was carried out by the Saudi Red Crescent Society and the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SPA said.

The evacuees were flown to Jeddah on a Saudia Airlines flight, SPA said.

The evacuation comes amid a political crisis in Sudan, where the military has taken power after ousting the country's civilian-led government.

The military has said it will hold elections within two years, but the civilian-led government has rejected the move and called for international pressure to reverse it.

The United States, the European Union, and the United Nations have all condemned the military takeover and called for the restoration of civilian rule.

The Saudi government has not yet commented on the military takeover in Sudan.

The evacuation of Saudi nationals and foreigners from Sudan is a sign of the growing political instability in the country. The military takeover has raised concerns about the future of Sudan's transition to democracy and its economic development.

The Saudi government has a long history of supporting Sudan. In the past, Saudi Arabia has provided Sudan with financial aid, military assistance, and diplomatic support.

It remains to be seen how the Saudi government will respond to the current political crisis in Sudan. The Saudi government may choose to continue to support the military government, or it may choose to pressure the military to hand over power to a civilian-led government.

The Saudi government's response to the current political crisis in Sudan will have a significant impact on the future of Sudan and the region.
