Flights from Kathmandu banned for two weeks as HK sees ten imported cases

Hong Kong health authorities reported ten imported cases on Thursday and banned passenger flights from Kathmandu, operated by Nepal Airlines, for two weeks.
Meanwhile, a compulsory testing notice has been slapped on Silver Waves Court after a woman who lives there tested positive in Taiwan.

Two men and two women, aged 24 to 76, arrived in Hong Kong from Nepal via flight RA409 on Tuesday and tested positive for the Delta variant upon arrival at the airport. The 24-year-old woman developed symptoms on the same day, while the other three remained asymptomatic.

Following the cases, the Department of Health banned the landing of passenger flights from Kathmandu operated by Nepal Airlines from December 16 to 29.

The other six cases included a 47-year-old sailor who traveled from Japan via the cargo vessel Glory Sky on December 1. His specimen collected onboard the ship tested positive for the L452R mutant strain.

The sea crew members onboard had not gone ashore after arriving in Hong Kong, and no local persons had boarded the vessel. All of the remaining sea crew members have to undergo quarantine on board and conduct Covid tests.

A 34-year-old Indonesian foreign domestic helper who traveled to Hong Kong via flight CX776 on Tuesday tested positive for the L452R mutant strain upon arrival and remained asymptomatic.

Then, a 67-year-old woman who arrived in Hong Kong from the Netherlands by flight QR818 via Qatar on Tuesday tested positive for the L452R mutant strain upon arrival and remained asymptomatic.

Another 32-year-old man arrived in Hong Kong from Belarus and Lithuania by flight QR818 via Qatar last Friday. He developed symptoms on Sunday and tested positive for the L452R mutant strain during quarantine at Four Points by Sheraton Hong Kong in Tung Chung.

Furthermore, a 26-year-old male aircrew member arrived in Hong Kong from Germany via flight 3S516 on Wednesday and tested positive for the L452R mutant strain upon arrival, remaining asymptomatic.

The remaining case was a 27-year-old male aircrew member who arrived from Kenya, the United Arab Emirates, India, Ukraine, and Uganda by flight ACP502 via the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday. He developed symptoms on the same day and tested positive for the N501Y mutant strain.

On another note, the Centre for Health Protection is investigating a case confirmed in Taiwan involving a 51-year-old woman who lived at Silver Waves Court in Mui Wo.

She tested negative in Hong Kong on November 30 and traveled to Taiwan on December 2 by flight CX494. Her specimen collected in Taiwan on the same day tested negative. She tested positive on Sunday with a low viral load.

As a prudent measure, 14 places where she visited in Hong Kong during the incubation period, including Central Pier No. 6 and Hong Kong Cultural Centre, have been included in a compulsory testing notice.

Those who have visited the named locations on the designated dates have to finish compulsory testing by Friday.
