Converting the Hassan campus to produce energy from "clean coal" to natural gas

Converting the Hassan campus to produce energy from "clean coal" to natural gas

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, signed the agreement with Hassan Energy and blessed the decision of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority to transform the Hassan Energy Production Complex from clean coal technology into natural. Gas with an independent production system with a production capacity of 2,400 MW.
The Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Emirate of Dubai 2050’s Carbon Neutrality Strategy enhance the security of Dubai’s energy supply. It is in line with directions to reduce dependence on energy sources, and high carbon energy sources by 2050. This effort is in line with the expectation that gas will play a key role in enabling economic growth in the United Arab Emirates over the next 50 years.

Saeed Mohammed Al Dyer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said: And we are working to implement a number of projects and guidelines in the water sector.

He added: Support the efforts of the United Arab Emirates to mitigate the effects of global warming and climate change, and to seek the guidance of intelligent leadership; We are moving forward with our efforts to reduce carbon emissions. As natural gas is a safe and environmentally friendly source of energy, Dubai has a clear strategy and specific goals to increase confidence in renewable and clean energy in the energy mix.

Al Dyer said, “The Hassan complex for power generation from natural gas will join the power generation and water desalination on the premises of the Jebel Ali plants, which is one of the key pillars to deliver the Dubai Emirate reliability, efficiency and high quality electricity and water services.”

For his part, Mohammed Abunayan, chairman of the board of directors of ACWA Power and a member of the board of directors of Hasian Energy, said: “Hassian Energy fully supports the orders of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Decision of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority to promote and promote clean energy initiatives and reduce emissions.

He added, “Hassian Power is proud to contribute to Dubai’s success in achieving the goal of a future carbon neutral economy.”

According to a study approved by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, achieving zero carbon emissions requires the participation of various key sectors, including the energy and water sectors, through the promotion and dissemination of solar power generation projects and energy conservation. And reverse osmosis plants that use carbon capture technologies and on-demand flexibility for fossil fuel power plants, green hydrogen for electricity and water generation, and seawater desalination and clean energy for water production.

With regard to the transport sector, while encouraging the use of public transport, vehicle capacity standards should be raised and converted to electric and green hydrogen vehicles. In industry, there is a need to switch from fossil fuels to electricity, green hydrogen and solar energy, and in addition to carbon capture technologies to reduce emissions in some processes. In the case of buildings, work must be done to increase the efficiency of the cooling processes for most buildings and to achieve energy efficiency for all new buildings by 2050. For waste products, carbon capture technologies should be followed in waste-power plants and gas extraction in land. And recycling.

At the Hassan campus, there is a water desalination project with a production capacity of 120 million gallons per day using “reverse osmosis” technology, according to the Independent Water Producers Organization, and work is underway to build water treatment plants using reverse osmosis; This makes it an excellent choice for desalination as it requires less energy compared to flash filtration technology.
