Global and Arab Welcome for Joseph Aoun's Election as Lebanon's President

After a two-year presidential vacancy, Joseph Aoun's election garners widespread international and regional support.
The election of Joseph Aoun as President of Lebanon has been met with widespread acclaim from both international and Arab leaders, following a two-year period of presidential vacancy in the country.

United Nations Security Council:
On Thursday, the United Nations Security Council welcomed the election of Joseph Aoun.

Algerian Ambassador Amar Benjema, whose country holds the council's rotating presidency this month, emphasized the importance of electing a president in Lebanon to ensure the full functioning of state institutions and to address urgent economic and security challenges.

United Nations:
UN Secretary-General António Guterres congratulated the newly elected Lebanese president, describing the election as a crucial step out of Lebanon's political and institutional deadlock.

Guterres urged the swift formation of a new government, as communicated by his spokesman Stéphane Dujarric.

United States:
President Joe Biden congratulated President-elect Joseph Aoun, expressing confidence in his leadership.

Biden described Aoun as the suitable leader for this era, noting that the Lebanese people have chosen a path aligned with peace, security, and sovereignty, in partnership with the international community.

European Union:
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the election a 'moment of hope' for Lebanon.

France:
French President Emmanuel Macron remarked that Aoun's election paves the way for reforms in Lebanon.

Macron and Aoun agreed in a phone call that the French president will visit Lebanon soon.

Additionally, the French Foreign Ministry stated that Lebanon's new presidential chapter should now be followed by appointing a government capable of implementing necessary reforms.

Germany:
The German Foreign Ministry viewed Aoun's election as an opportunity for initiating reforms in Lebanon.

United Kingdom:
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy extended his congratulations to Aoun and expressed eagerness to collaborate for Lebanon's stability.

Russia:
Russia expressed hope that Joseph Aoun's leadership would bring political stability and economic recovery to Lebanon.

Turkey:
Turkey congratulated the new Lebanese president and expressed hope that Aoun's election would contribute to Lebanon's stability.

Iran:
The Iranian Foreign Ministry voiced optimism that Lebanon's presidential election would enhance internal unity and cohesion.

Saudi Arabia:
Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed their congratulations to Lebanon's new president.

Qatar:
Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani congratulated Joseph Aoun via a post on the X platform, expressing hope that this would mark a new era of stability and prosperity for Lebanon.

He reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to supporting Lebanon.

United Arab Emirates:
UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his deputies Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan also extended their congratulations.

Kuwait:
Kuwaiti Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent a congratulatory telegram highlighting the strong bilateral relations and expressing a desire to strengthen them.

Jordan:
Jordan's King Abdullah II congratulated Joseph Aoun and reiterated Jordan's support for Lebanon in bolstering its security, stability, and prosperity.

Egypt:
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called his Lebanese counterpart to offer congratulations, reaffirming Egypt's support, according to Lebanon's official news agency.

Iraq:
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry welcomed Aoun's election, praising it as a pivotal step for political stability and reaffirming Iraq's steadfast support for Lebanon.

Algeria:
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune sent a message of congratulations to Aoun, celebrating Lebanon's progress toward recovery and expressing Algeria's full readiness to enhance bilateral relations.

Palestine:
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas hoped Lebanon would soon overcome the repercussions of the conflict initiated by Israel.
