On March 12, 2025, a severe train siege in Balochistan province, Pakistan, culminated in the successful rescue of 346 hostages by security forces, who engaged in intense operations against militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).

The siege began on Tuesday afternoon when armed rebels attacked a train carrying more than 450 passengers in a remote area.

The BLA, a separatist organization advocating for greater autonomy and rights for the Baloch people, quickly took responsibility for the assault, releasing footage that depicted an explosion on the tracks followed by militants storming the train from nearby mountainous regions.

During the attack, it was reported that 27 off-duty soldiers among the passengers were executed by the insurgents, with another soldier losing his life in the ensuing counter-operation carried out by the military.

In the course of the armed conflict, security forces successfully killed over 30 insurgents before managing to regain control of the train and liberate the hostages.

The BLA has increasingly intensified its attacks in recent months, targeting military forces and non-local residents in Balochistan, alleging that external entities are exploiting the region's natural resources.

This incident underscores the growing security concerns in the region, particularly following a prior armed assault on the Jaffar Express, which resulted in injuries to multiple passengers and heightened fears regarding the safety of rail travel in Balochistan.
