The Houthi military spokesperson, General Yahya Saree, announced the resumption of attacks on vessels heading to Israel in the Red and Arab Seas, as tensions intensify regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

This announcement, made via the social media platform X, signifies the Houthis' renewed commitment to enforcing a naval blockade on ships linked to Israel.

The decision arises in response to Israel's ongoing blockade of the Gaza Strip, despite a ceasefire agreement with Hamas that was intended to facilitate humanitarian aid delivery.

Separately, Houthi leader Abdul Malik Al-Houthi had previously set a deadline for mediators to urge Israel to reopen humanitarian crossings to Gaza, which has now lapsed.

Consequently, the Houthi movement has declared a renewed prohibition on Israeli-affiliated vessels traversing their operational zone.

The Houthis had suspended their maritime attacks following the ceasefire agreement reached in January 2025. However, prior to that, they had initiated strikes on maritime routes starting in November 2023, a response to Hamas' Al-Aqsa Flood operation launched on October 7, 2023, which specifically targeted multiple ships en route to Israel.

This latest development underscores the ongoing complexities in the region, where conflicts over humanitarian access and maritime security continue to intersect.
