Inter-Parliamentary Union working group on Ukrainian crisis concludes its visit to Kiev, Moscow

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) working group tasked with finding a peaceful solution to the crisis in Ukraine, has concluded its visit to Kyiv and Moscow.
The working group, headed by Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee of the UAE Federal National Council (FNC), and Representative of the Arab Geopolitical Group in the Union's Executive Committee, included the Speakers of Parliaments from Namibia, South Africa and Uruguay, as well as prominent representatives from Indonesia, Israel and Kazakhstan.

During its visits, the IPU working group held discussions with the political leaders of the two countries, with the aim of progressing towards a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian crises.

During the visit to Kyiv, the working group met with Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine; members of different political parties in Parliament; members of the Verkhovna Rada of the IPU; representatives of the United Nations; and the Prosecutor-General of Ukraine.

The team visited the cities of Dmitrievka, Bucha and Irpin to see the impact of the crisis on the capital, Kyiv, and its neighbouring towns.

In Moscow, the working group held meetings in the State Duma with Deputy Chairman Pyotr Tolstoy, and in the Russian Federation Council with Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev.

Dr. Al Nuaimi met with Andrey Rudenko, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister; Tatyana Moskalkova, High Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation; as well as representatives of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation. During the meeting, Russian views were heard.

"These visits mark the beginning of a mission aimed at communicating with representatives of the Russian and Ukrainian parliaments, as we work with them to build bridges between the two countries to end the crisis, build trust between the two parties and strengthen relations based on the principle peaceful coexistence," said Dr. Al Nuaimi.

In both capitals, the IPU working group stressed the need to immediately stop the escalation and return to dialogue in order to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis, in strict adherence to international law.
