The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has closed its investigation into a gaming feature available in some Tesla vehicles, known as "Passenger Play." The investigation was opened in late 2021 to determine if the feature posed a distraction to drivers.
Tesla issued an update in late 2021 that discontinued the feature, and the NHTSA's closing of the investigation did not constitute a finding that no safety-related defect exists.
Tesla built 4 million vehicles in 2022, including nearly 1.3 million Model 3 and Y electric vehicles and over 71,000 Model S and X.
The company manufactured some 440,800 vehicles in the first quarter of 2023.
