In a significant escalation, Israeli warplanes conducted airstrikes on Sunday night, targeting the vicinity of the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek.

This marks the first such attack since the ceasefire arrangement between Israel and Hezbollah, effective since November 27, 2024.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported that the strikes focused on the town of Janta in the Baalbek-Hermel district but did not disclose any information regarding potential casualties.

Simultaneously, Israeli aircraft carried out six intensive air raids on southern Lebanon, striking several locations.

These actions continue despite the ceasefire brokered by the United States and France, which aimed to conclude approximately 14 months of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

Under the terms of the truce, Israel was to withdraw from Lebanese territories within 60 days while the Lebanese army assumes security responsibilities along the Lebanese-Israeli border.

Additionally, the agreement prohibits the presence of arms and militants in the designated area.

Despite the ceasefire, Israeli forces have persisted with airstrikes in Lebanon, though with reduced frequency.

Some of these operations have unfortunately resulted in fatalities and injuries.
