Israeli Forces Intensify Operations in Jenin and Tulkarem Camps

Continued military incursions and demolitions reported in Palestinian territories amid heightened tensions.
Israeli forces resumed military operations in the West Bank on Monday, with significant activities in the Jenin area, including incursions into the towns of Silat al-Harithiya and Ya'bad.

Local sources reported that soldiers entered several homes, conducting searches and interrogations of residents.

During these operations, two young men were reportedly detained in Ya'bad and questioned on-site, adding to a pattern of ongoing military actions that have seen daily arrests and harassment in various towns and villages throughout the Jenin district.

In parallel, Israeli forces have continued demolishing residential structures in Tulkarem Refugee Camp for the fourth consecutive day.

This surge of violence has unfolded over a sustained period of 134 days of military operations in the region.

Reports indicate that several dozen homes have been demolished specifically in the al-Balouna and al-Akasha neighborhoods, which are part of a broader Israeli plan targeting 106 buildings across Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps.

These demolitions reportedly affect over 250 residential units and numerous commercial establishments.

The Israeli Defense Forces announced plans in early May 2023 to demolish these buildings as part of a strategy perceived to enforce forced displacement of the Palestinian population.

Recently, Tulkarem Governor Abdullah Kmail indicated that the planned demolitions included 58 buildings in Tulkarem camp and 48 in Nur Shams.

Moreover, the Israeli military has maintained a strict blockade on both Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps, effectively preventing residents from accessing their homes under the threat of live fire.

Continued military actions in Nur Shams have similarly brought about the demolition of more than 20 residential structures recently, part of an overarching campaign to demolish 48 buildings under the premise of road opening and geographic alteration.

Reports highlight intensified Israeli military movements in Tulkarem and surrounding areas, involving patrols of foot soldiers and military vehicles, which routinely obstruct civilian movements.

Additionally, the Israeli military has been occupying various buildings along Nablus Street and in the northern district of Tulkarem, forcibly evicting residents and converting the structures into military outposts.

Some of these buildings have been under military control for over three months, with ongoing military operations and bulldozers in the vicinity.

According to the latest figures, this escalation of conflict has resulted in the displacement of over 5,000 families from the camps, totaling more than 25,000 individuals affected.

At least 400 homes have been completely destroyed, with an additional 2,573 partially damaged, compounded by the continued blockade of camp entrances, transforming them into areas nearly devoid of daily life.

Simultaneously, the violence in the Gaza Strip has seen significant escalation since October 7, 2023, with reports of over 181,000 Palestinian casualties, including the deaths of many children and women.

The situation in the West Bank continues to deteriorate, with at least 974 fatalities and 7,000 injuries reported, along with over 17,000 arrests amidst a backdrop of increasing military aggression and settler violence.
