Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani on March 17, 2025, in Brussels, alongside an international conference focused on supporting Syria's political transformation.
This meeting marks a significant step in the improving ties between Jordan and Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December 2024. Following this regime change, interim president of the Syrian Arab Republic, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, visited Amman in late February, indicating a thaw in relations and potential for collaboration.
During their discussions in Brussels, Safadi reiterated Jordan's commitment to supporting Syria's reconstruction, stressing that any efforts must prioritize the preservation of security and national unity, alongside safeguarding the rights of the Syrian people.

The Brussels event was organized by the European Union and represented the ninth international conference aimed at mobilizing support for Syria amidst ongoing recovery efforts following more than 13 years of civil conflict.
Notably, representatives from the newly established interim government in Syria, including Al-Shaibani, were invited to attend for the first time, underscoring a significant shift in international engagement with the Syrian leadership as the country navigates its post-war recovery.
