Koeman Recalls Wijnaldum for Netherlands National Team

Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay are set to return to the Netherlands squad for international friendly matches against Scotland and Germany later this month.
In addition, Quentin Timber has been called up for the first time as coach Ronald Koeman assesses his options ahead of the UEFA European Football Championship 2024.

Wijnaldum, the 33-year-old former captain, moved to Saudi club Al-Ettifaq this season and received his first call-up since the Nations League final in June of last year.

Depay, aged 30, has battled with injuries over the last 12 months and has not played for his national side since March of the previous year.

Both players are considered key components of the team, and while Depay's call-up was always likely when fit, Wijnaldum's return could be aimed at adding experience ahead of the European Championship in Germany.

Quentin Timber, the 22-year-old twin brother of Arsenal defender Jurriën Timber who is also a Dutch international but has not been selected for the upcoming match on home turf against Scotland in Amsterdam on March 23, or the trip to Frankfurt in Germany three days later is included in the squad for the first time.

The Dutch squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Marco Bizot (Stade Brest), Mark Flekken (Brentford), Bart Verbruggen (Brighton & Hove Albion).

Defenders: Nathan Aké (Manchester City), Daley Blind (Girona), Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool), Denzel Dumfries (Inter Milan), Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen), Lutsharel Geertruida (Feyenoord), Quilindschy Hartman (Feyenoord), Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern Munich), Stefan de Vrij (Inter Milan).

Midfielders: Teun Koopmeiners (Atalanta), Tejani Reinders (Milan), Marten de Roon (Atalanta), Jerdy Schouten (Eindhoven), Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig), Quinten Timber (Feyenoord), Joey Veerman (Eindhoven), Mats Wieffer (Feyenoord), Georginio Wijnaldum (Al-Ettifaq).

Forwards: Brian Brobbey (Ajax), Memphis Depay (Atlético Madrid), Cody Gakpo (Liverpool), Donyell Malen (Borussia Dortmund), Wout Weghorst (Hoffenheim).
