KSrelief signs two agreements worth $10 million with WHO, UNICEF

King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) Monday, on the sidelines of the World Health Summit 2022 in Berlin, signed two agreements with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to prevent and combat the spread of measles and polio in several countries.

Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of KSrelief Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah signed the agreements with WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom and UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.

The first agreement, signed with WHO, aims at preventing the spread of measles and polio in Somalia, Sudan and Iraq, benefiting 12,076,185 individuals with a value of $5 million.

The agreement also seeks to support the cooling chains to store vaccinations through electric generators or using solar panels, securing vaccination, medical devices and lab items, in addition to covering operational costs for vaccination campaigns and supporting the program through hiring experts from WHO.

Meanwhile, the second agreement signed with UNICEF aims at contributing to combating polio and measles in Congo, Central Africa, Guinea, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, benefiting 2,095,102 individuals with a value of $5 million.

The agreement also seeks to support the cooling chains to store vaccinations through electric generators or using solar panels, securing vaccination, medical devices and lab items, in addition to covering operational costs for vaccination campaigns and supporting the program through hiring experts from UNICEF.

Following the signing ceremony, Dr. Al Rabeeah stressed the pivotal role of Saudi Arabia in the relief and humanitarian fields in the world, where Saudi Arabia has always supported the needy and afflicted countries out of its belief in the importance of the humanitarian and relief work.

He noted that the two agreements are part of supporting international efforts to prevent and limit the outbreak of polio and measles for millions of children in beneficiary countries, and commending the strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and WHO and UNICEF.

German Foreign Office officials

On Tuesday, Dr. Al Rabeeah in Berlin met with Director of Middle East and North Africa of the Foreign Office of Germany Tobias Tunkel and Director for Humanitarian Assistance in the Foreign Office Susanne Fries-Gaier, in the presence of the Acting Chargé d'Affairs of Saudi Arabia’s Embassy to Germany, Muhammad Al-Dawas.

Dr. Al Rabeeah briefed the German side on the humanitarian efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through KSrelief, around the world, highlighting its role in providing various humanitarian aid to many affected countries.

Discussions during the meeting also went over frameworks for cooperation and joint coordination in the humanitarian and relief fields between Saudi Arabia and Germany to enhance humanitarian work around the world and support the needy.
