Macron's Morocco Visit Signals Support for Western Sahara Autonomy Amid Rising Global Tensions

Macron's visit to Morocco signals France's support for Western Sahara's autonomy, straining ties with Algeria while focusing on trade and immigration.
In a significant diplomatic shift, French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Morocco indicates France's endorsement of Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara, strengthening France-Morocco ties while straining relations with Algeria. Meetings with King Mohammed VI and Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch are set to address key issues like trade and immigration amidst recent tensions over visas and espionage allegations.

Meanwhile, in Myanmar, resistance forces have made major territorial gains against the military regime with the launch of Operation 1027 conducted by the Three Brotherhood Alliance, achieving victories in strategic locations such as Laukkai and Lashio despite the military's support from Russia and China.

Turning to Eastern Europe, the US and EU have demanded a thorough investigation into Georgia's controversial parliamentary election reported to be plagued by alleged violations, amid rising East-West tension. The contested results have prompted President Salome Zourabichvili to urge public protests, emphasizing the divide between the country's pro-Western and pro-Russian camps.

In Australia, Ebony Bell faces assault charges after an incident involving independent Senator Lidia Thorpe at a football match, leaving Thorpe with minor but reportedly serious injuries. Bell's court case, punctuated by claims of prosecution deficiencies, follows Thorpe's own controversies over her protest against King Charles III.

Across the Mediterranean, tragedy struck off the Tunisian coast, where the coast guard recovered 15 migrant bodies in a troubling continuation of similar incidents, as the region grapples with an ongoing migrant crisis.

Lastly, in the Middle East, an Israeli airstrike on Tyre, Lebanon, led to at least five deaths and ten injuries, escalating tensions after previous attacks in the region amid Israeli military actions targeting Hezbollah.
