Mark Savaya, a Michigan businessman with roots in the cannabis and real estate industries, has been named as Donald Trump’s special envoy to Iraq.

Savaya, who is of Lebanese descent, says his mission will center on advancing U.S.-Iraq economic cooperation and encouraging investment in reconstruction projects.

Political observers say the appointment reflects Trump’s continued focus on strengthening U.S. influence in the Middle East through private-sector engagement.
