Minsa fines PRD and Parrillada Jimmy's for $50,000 each for violating health regulations

Minsa fines PRD and Parrillada Jimmy's for $50,000 each for violating health regulations

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported this Friday, June 19, that it has sanctioned both the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) and the Parrillada Jimmy’s restaurant with a fine of $50,000, each, for violating the health regulations decreed before the declared state of national emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The director of the Metropolitan Health Region, Israel Cedeño, was in charge of the investigations of this case. This Thursday deputies and directors of the ruling party held a meeting in the restaurant, despite the fact that these types of activities are temporarily suspended by quarantine.

Since last March, the Minsa has banned restaurants from serving customers at its premises; only door to door sales or orders are allowed.

In the statement issued this afternoon, the Ministry highlighted that the General Health Directorate, after "receiving what was done" by Cedeño, decided to issue the respective sanctions for those responsible for this meeting.

No reference is made to the deputies and politicians who participated in the meeting or to the party leaders. It also makes no mention of Labor Minister Doris Zapata , who participated in the meeting at Jimmy's. The Ministry of Labor, precisely, prohibited the meetings of more than 10 people, while the pandemic lasts.

"The Ministry emphasizes that there will be no privileges or privileges in the event of non-compliance with the legal provisions emanating from this authority, aimed at mitigating the spread of a silent but deadly virus," emphasizes the Health authority.

Once the public knew that the meeting was taking place, the reactions questioning the fact were immediate. Even a group of citizens protested in the vicinity of the premises.

In addition, the bar and restaurant unions also expressed their rejection of the meeting because it was not complying with sanitary regulations.

The Chamber of Commerce also spoke out demanding consequences for the organizers of the meeting.

This Friday, the PRD issued a statement in which it justified holding a meeting of its caucus in a restaurant, but offered apologies for the "outrage and discomfort" that the event has aroused in the population.

According to Pedro Miguel González , secretary general of the PRD, the meeting of the caucus could not be held in the National Assembly, because it was a "partisan" event, and neither at the headquarters of the collective, on Peru Avenue, because it is being remodeled.
