Nigeria's Coach Jose Peseiro Exits His Role After Contract Ends
Jose Peseiro, the Portuguese coach of Nigeria's national football team, has announced his departure from his position this Friday, only weeks after leading the team to the finals of the African Cup of Nations.
The coach declared via the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, which he referenced as (Platform X), that his contract with the Nigerian Football Federation has concluded.
Peseiro wrote, "Yesterday, our contract with the Nigerian Football Federation came to an end. It has been a matter of pride and honor to coach Nigeria. It was a 22-month period filled with dedication, sacrifice, passion, and immense enthusiasm. We feel accomplished for what we have achieved."
Peseiro took charge of the Nigerian team to the finals of the African Nations Cup for the first time since 2013, but they relinquished a 1-0 lead against their host, Ivory Coast, to a 2-1 loss in Abidjan on the 11th of February.
The experienced 63-year-old coach had previous appointments at the helm of the national teams of Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.
