Panamá acumula 71,418 casos y 1,574 muertes por COVID-19

Panama reports 1,187 new cases of COVID-19 and total of 71,418 infections

Panama registered in the last 24 hours 1,187 new cases of COVID-19 and 21 new deaths, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported on Thursday, August 6.
With these figures, the country accumulates 71,418 cases and 1,574 deaths from this virus for a fatality rate of 2.2%.

3,506 new tests were performed to detect COVID-19 for 34% positivity. In total, 240,995 tests have been carried out, of which 167,264 have been negative.

There are a total of 24,186 active cases and 866 new patients recovered for a total of 45,658.

According to the epidemiological report of the Minsa, 22,071 of the active patients are in home isolation (626 in hotels), while 1,489 are hospitalized (1,332 in the ward and 157 in intensive care).

Regarding the number of cases and deaths according to age group, 8,826 cases and 16 deaths were registered in children under 20 years of age; 30,553 cases and 86 deaths in patients between 20 to 39 years old; 22,453 cases and 359 deaths in patients between 40 and 59 years old; 8,012 cases and 736 deaths between the ages of 60 and 79 and 1,574 cases and 377 deaths in those over 80 years of age.

The townships with more than 10 confirmed cases are Aguadulce (44), Bugaba (37), Vista Alegre (35), David (34), Arraiján (30), Cativa (30), Tocumen (26), Alcalde Díaz (25) , Pacora (25), Belisario Frías (24), Barrio Balboa (23), Pedregal (22), Las Mañanitas (21), Guadalupe (19), Las Cumbres (19), Las Lomas (18), December 24 (17) and Barú (17).

Israel Cedeño, director of the Metropolitan Health Region, explained that although the number of cases is increasing - because it is accumulated - active cases in the most affected regions, such as Panama, are decreasing.
