Republican and Democrat lawmakers have threatened retaliation if the Hague-based court goes ahead with the arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials.

US Representative Brad Sherman (D-California) has expressed opposition to any ICC moves against Israel's leaders.

A 14-term congressman, Brad Sherman, criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC) for considering warrants for Israeli leaders over alleged self-defense actions during the 2014 conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Sherman called the ICC a "kangaroo court" and urged President Biden to condemn the potential arrest warrants.

The ICC is investigating alleged atrocities committed by both Israeli military and Palestinian militant groups during the conflict.

Israel's Prime Minister, Netanyahu, had previously asked Biden to prevent the ICC from prosecuting him and other Israeli officials.

In October, Hamas initiated surprise attacks against Israeli villages, resulting in over 1,100 deaths and hundreds of hostages taken to Gaza.

Since then, over 34,000 Palestinians have been killed in seven months of intense Israeli bombardment.

The UN's International Court of Justice ruled in January that it was plausible Israeli forces had committed genocide in the besieged Palestinian territory.
