Masoud Pezeshkian was sworn in before the Iranian parliament as the country's ninth president on Tuesday.

He pledged to lift Western sanctions and engage constructively with the world.

The ceremony, attended by over 80 foreign officials and broadcast live on state TV, marked the start of Pezeshkian's four-year term.

Confirmed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian won the presidency with 53.6% of the vote after a runoff election.

He stressed Iran's commitment to a peaceful nuclear program and a strong region.

The president has two weeks to form his Cabinet for parliamentary approval.
