German sportswear giant Adidas has removed American model Bella Hadid from its advertising campaign for retro sneakers following criticism from Israel.

Hadid, whose Palestinian father was born in Nazareth, has strongly advocated for Palestinian rights and has and condemned the ongoing Gaza conflict, which has claimed over 38,000 Palestinian lives.

The Israeli criticism came after the re-launch of Adidas' SL72 shoes, initially showcased during the 1972 Munich Olympics, infamous for the terrorist attack by the Palestinian group Black September.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry accused Hadid of anti-Semitism and provoking violence against Israelis.

In response, Adidas announced it would revise the campaign, citing unintended historical sensitivities.

Reactions on social media were mixed, with some prominent figures like Candace Owens calling Adidas' action gross, while others demanded a boycott of the company.

This is not the first time Adidas has ended partnerships over alleged anti-Semitic stances, having previously cut ties with rapper Kanye West, known as Ye, in 2022.
