Dr. Israel Cedeño, director of the Metropolitan Health Region, reported that the Rt or reproduction rate of COVID-19 in Panama has remained at 1.02 in the last 2 epidemiological weeks.
Cedeño explained that by region, the provinces of Darién, Panama Oeste, Los Santos and the district of San Miguelito mark a Rt above 1, while in the other provinces it is below 1.
There has been a trend towards the stabilization of
COVID-19 cases in the last 6 weeks due to a plateau phase, however, there was an increase in epidemiological week 41 that runs from October 4 to 10.
Regarding deaths from this virus,
Cedeño indicated that they have been stable since week 37, with slight increases in week 39 and 40.
The fatality rate remains at 2.1%. At the beginning of the pandemic it was above 3.9%.
Since the week of August 31, there is an increase in tests applied to detect the disease and a decrease in positivity.
