Saudi Arabia: Fake dentist arrested, medicines seized

Saudi health and security authorities have arrested a resident from an Asian country, who illegally set up a dental clinic in the capital Riyadh and an unidentified quantities of medicines of unknown sources were seized, local media reported.

In a statement, the Riyadh Health Department said inspection teams have detected a resident of Asian nationality illegally working as a dentist in his own unlicensed clinic.

“The fake dentist was immediately stopped from practicing work and handed over to the police for referral to the prosecution for interrogation and taking all legal measures against him,” the statement said.

Article 28 of Saudi Law of Practicing Healthcare Professions states without prejudice to any severer punishment provided for in other laws, a person committing any of the following shall be subject to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months and a fine not exceeding 100,000 riyals, or either punishment:

1. Practicing healthcare without a license;

2. Providing false information or using unlawful means resulting in his obtaining a license to practice healthcare;

3. Using means of advertising that would lead the public to believe in his eligibility to practice healthcare, contrary to fact;

4. Unlawfully claiming a title usually associated with healthcare professionals;

5. Possessing instruments or equipment usually used in the practice of healthcare professions without having a license to practice , such professions or a legitimate reason for such possession;

6. Unjustifiably declining to treat a patient;

7. Trading in human organs or performing human organ transplant knowing that the organ in question has been obtained by means of trade.
