Ministers convene in Doha to strategize on rebuilding efforts for Gaza following extensive military conflicts.
In a significant diplomatic meeting, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, engaged with his Arab counterparts and the United States Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, to discuss the reconstruction plan for the Gaza Strip.
This meeting took place in Doha and follows the approval of the reconstruction initiative during the recent Arab League Summit held in Cairo on March 4, 2025.
According to Qatar's foreign ministry, the discussions included coordination efforts among the involved parties to lay the foundation for reconstruction activities in Gaza.
The region has faced substantial devastation over the past 15 months due to Israeli bombings and military operations, resulting in the deaths of approximately 50,000 Palestinians.
In February, a controversial proposal by US President
Donald Trump suggested relocating Gaza's residents to neighboring countries, including Jordan and Egypt.
This proposal was met with strong opposition from Arab League nations, which conducted an emergency summit in response, emphasizing the necessity of a reconstruction plan that prioritizes the welfare of Gaza's inhabitants without displacing them.
Attending the Doha meeting were Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Khalifa Shaheen Al-Marar, and Hussien Al-Shiekh, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization.
The gathering underscores the ongoing regional efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to facilitate effective reconstruction following the prolonged conflict.
