SDRPY, UNDP workshop held to boost cooperation

The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) organized a workshop in Riyadh Sunday with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to enhance the existing cooperation between the two sides.
The meeting was chaired by the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Yemen Dr. Nahid Hussein and SDRPY Assistant General Supervisor Eng. Hassan Al-Attas.

Welcoming the participating delegation, Eng. Al-Attas praised the permanent cooperation between the two sides and stressed the importance of coordinating efforts in development and reconstruction in Yemen, and placing this fruitful cooperation in an effective framework.

He hoped that the workshop would come up with an action plan to enhance cooperation in qualitative projects in areas of interest between the two sides.

The workshop discussed the situation of the fisheries sector in the Yemeni regions, and also discussed ways of cooperation in supporting the fisheries sector and other sectors related to food security in Yemen, to improve the daily living and the lives of the Yemeni people.

The workshop stressed the importance of cooperation in strengthening Yemeni institutions, building their capacities, and coordinating donor efforts in cooperation with the Yemeni government, in light of the presence of an appropriate ground for setting a development vision in Yemen led by the Yemeni government.

In the agriculture and fisheries sector, SDRPY implemented 18 seven projects and 11 development initiatives that included promoting the use of modern agricultural technologies and systems.

It also set up projects to provide fully equipped greenhouses, and projects to provide and distribute fishing boats with modern engines, to raise the rate and quality of production and stimulate sustainable food production and empower Yemeni citizens working in this sector to contribute to achieving self-sufficiency.

These efforts are part of SDRPY’s support, which has implemented 224 development projects and initiatives in various Yemeni governorates.

The SDRPY serves the Yemenis in seven main sectors, namely education, health, water, energy, transportation, agriculture and fisheries, and capacity building of government institutions, in addition to development programs.
