Sisi Discusses Gaza Reconstruction Plan with Jewish Congress President and Jordan's Crown Prince

Sisi Discusses Gaza Reconstruction Plan with Jewish Congress President and Jordan's Crown Prince

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi outlines a comprehensive plan for Gaza's reconstruction while emphasizing the need for stability in the region.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi confirmed on Sunday that his government is formulating a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, asserting that it will not involve the displacement of the Palestinian population.

This statement came during a meeting with Ronald Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress, who was accompanied by Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad.

Sisi underscored the importance of all parties exercising responsibility to maintain the ceasefire, cautioning that any continuation or escalation of conflict would adversely affect all involved.

Since January 25, 2023, U.S. President Donald Trump has promoted a proposal that would entail the relocation of Palestinian residents from Gaza to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan.

Both Egypt and Jordan have rejected this proposal, a sentiment echoed by several other Arab nations and international organizations.

In contrast, Trump's plan has received considerable political support within Israel, spanning various ideological groups.

On the previous Tuesday, Egypt announced its intention to present a reconstruction proposal for Gaza that would ensure the Palestinian people remain on their land, aligning with their legitimate rights.

In an official statement, the Egyptian presidency noted that the discussions between Sisi and Lauder addressed strategies for restoring stability in the Middle East.

This included reviewing Egypt's efforts toward implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which encompasses the exchange of hostages and facilitating humanitarian aid entry into the enclave.

Sisi reiterated that the establishment of a Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only guarantee for achieving lasting peace, according to the same statement.

The World Jewish Congress, founded in 1936 and headquartered in New York City, is an international federation of Jewish organizations that supports the Zionist movement aimed at establishing the state of Israel, which has historically impacted the Palestinian population.

Following the meeting, Lauder expressed his desire for continued consultation with Egypt on relevant topics, highlighting the country's pivotal role in fostering peace in the region and acknowledging its wise efforts in promoting stability.

The Egyptian presidency also noted Lauder's support for all initiatives aiming to preserve peace and stability in the area, while also expressing optimism regarding the proposed Egyptian-Arab initiative for Gaza, emphasizing the need for a two-state solution to achieve peace.

Additionally, in Cairo, Sisi met with Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah of Jordan, who reaffirmed Jordan's support for Egypt's efforts in Gaza's reconstruction.

An official statement from the Jordanian royal court noted that Crown Prince Hussein conveyed greetings from King Abdullah II and recognized Egypt's significant role in addressing Arab issues and enhancing regional stability.

The two leaders reiterated their shared stance regarding the necessity of reconstructing Gaza without displacing the Palestinian population.

They also emphasized the importance of solidifying the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and increasing humanitarian aid to the region.

Furthermore, they expressed concern over escalating tensions in the West Bank and attacks against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The first phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement began on January 19, 2023, and is structured into three stages, each lasting 42 days, with negotiations required before moving to the subsequent phase.
