There are provisions in the Traffic Law for fines on the basis of the speeding violations. Article 77 of the law stipulates that if the vehicle owner or one responsible for driving the vehicle or its possessor allows another person who does not have a driving license to drive the vehicle, he shall be punished with a fine of not less than SR1,000 and not more than SR2,000, and if this results in a traffic accident, he shall be jointly liable with the illegal driver, and this will be based on the discretion of the competent court.

The Public Prosecution recently warned speeding motorists that violation of speed limits would lead to their arrest and criminal procedures apart from fines.

The Public Prosecution stated that traffic violations that endanger public safety would warrant criminal accountability against the offenders. According to the traffic regulations, light-motor vehicles can travel at a maximum speed of 140 km/h while buses at 100 km/h and trucks at 80 km/h.
