Thad A. Lettsome wins sailing championship in USA
Top Virgin Islands youth sailor, Thad A. Lettsome sailed to victory in the New England Schools Sailing Association (NESSA) Single Handed Championship held at Lewis Bay in Massachusetts, USA on October 5-6, 2019.
Lettsome, representing Tabor Academy, used his skills and experience to good effect to gain the right to represent NESSA at the Cressy Singlehanded National Championship in Santa Barbara, USA on November 2 and 3, 2019.
According to NESSA, Laser sailors arrived for the competitors meeting at 2:00pm Saturday and were greeted with sunny skies and a 7-9 knot northerly breeze.

“Courses were windward/leeward with the start/finish in the middle. Three races were completed for both the Lasers and Radials.”
On Sunday, October 6, 2019, sailors reported at 09:30am, with the wind shifted to the south and increased to 12-15 knots with partly cloudy skies.
“Once again the fleet headed across Lewis Bay for racing with the Lasers starting first. The wind direction was consistent with gusts providing a challenge for some of the sailors. The Lasers completed a double round robin with five races for the day and eight for the regatta."
Lettsome, who represented the Virgin Islands at the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru, in August, will join Jack Fisher and Aidan Brown as the NESSA representatives for the Cressy Singlehanded National Championship in November.
