Iranian Protests Erupt Over Israeli Actions in Lebanon and Gaza as Netanyahu Defends Military Response at UN.
Thousands of Iranians took to the streets in Tehran and other cities on September 27, 2024, to denounce Israeli actions in Lebanon and Gaza, expressing solidarity with Hezbollah and condemning what they called Israel's "barbaric crimes."
Meanwhile, at the UN General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu passionately defended Israel's military responses to Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack and criticized Iran for contributing to regional instability, amid mounting casualties on both sides.
This criticism comes at a time when UNICEF has condemned the escalating violence, particularly in Lebanon where Israeli bombardments have killed around 700 people, including 50 children, raising urgent calls for an end to hostilities.
The regional violence extends beyond the Middle East, as seen in Sudan where a paramilitary attack by the Rapid Support Forces on a market in El-Fasher resulted in 18 deaths and numerous injuries, sparking global ceasefire appeals from leaders including US President
Joe Biden and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Within Lebanon, the conflict has reached a crisis point, with over 700 deaths and nearly 6,000 injuries reported since Monday, overwhelming the health system and leading to significant hospital closures and medical supply shortages.
In other news, British supermodel Naomi Campbell has been banned from being a charity trustee for five years following a Charity Commission investigation into her charity, Fashion for Relief, which found financial mismanagement and multiple instances of misconduct, including misuse of funds and unauthorized payments.
