UK Introduces £10 Electronic Travel Authorization Amid Global Turmoil: Zelensky's Peace Plan, Middle East Tensions, and Argentina's Aviation Strike

UK to Introduce Electronic Travel Authorization for Non-Visa Travelers to Enhance Border Security Post-Brexit Effective April 2025.
Starting April 2, 2025, the UK will implement an Electronic Travel Authorization for non-visa travelers, similar to the US ESTA system, aiming to enhance border security post-Brexit. This £10 ETA, valid for two years, will affect non-European visitors from November 2024 and eligible Europeans from March 2025. The changes are also expected to impact passenger numbers at Heathrow Airport.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet US President Joe Biden this month with a 'victory plan' to end the conflict with Russia, amidst talks of allowing Kyiv to use Western long-range missiles. This announcement comes as Biden discusses similar matters with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Additionally, Zelensky plans to invite Russia to an international peace summit in November.

In other international news, Jordanian Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi and EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell met in Madrid, calling for an immediate truce and humanitarian aid for Gaza due to the escalating violence in the West Bank. They emphasized the need for a two-state solution to the Israel-Hamas conflict, with Safadi warning of severe consequences if Israeli actions continue.

Spain took a leading role in peace efforts by hosting high-stakes talks in Madrid on September 13th, focusing on advancing the Israeli-Palestinian two-state solution. The meeting included ministers from Muslim and European countries, and representatives from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, although Israel was notably absent. Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares stressed the importance of concrete actions towards peace.

On a related note, the Israeli military confirmed it targeted terrorists in southern Syria over the past week, following reports of deadly Israeli airstrikes. Syrian state media reported that Israeli strikes killed 16 people and injured dozens, and the New York Times mentioned Israeli special forces raiding a weapons site near the Syria-Lebanon border. However, the Israeli Defense Forces did not offer further details.

Finally, a strike by pilots and crew at Argentina's Aerolineas Argentinas has grounded over 30,000 passengers, resulting in the cancellation of 319 flights as workers demanded salary increases amidst severe inflation. President Javier Milei is considering declaring the aviation sector an "essential service" to maintain operations during strikes. His economic reforms and austerity measures aim to combat the skyrocketing inflation, which currently stands at 236% annually.
