UK Suspends Some Arms Exports to Israel Over Humanitarian Concerns
The UK government has partially suspended arms exports to Israel, freezing 30 out of 350 licenses due to concerns over potential breaches of international humanitarian law in the ongoing Gaza conflict. Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized this measure is based on risk assessment and not an accusation of guilt. This move aligns with the Labour government's consistent calls for a ceasefire and expedited aid delivery to Gaza.

Meanwhile, Pope Francis has embarked on a historic tour to strengthen interfaith relations, starting in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country. His 32,000-kilometer journey will also take him to Papua New Guinea, East Timor, and Singapore, where he will engage in significant dialogue with religious leaders and promote Islamic-Christian unity.

In Turkiye, authorities have swiftly arrested 15 members of the Turkish Youth Union for assaulting two US servicemen in Izmir. The incident involved American sailors from the USS Wasp attacked while in civilian clothes, with the US embassy expressing gratitude for the rapid response and investigation by Turkish law enforcement.

Over in Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is firmly insisting on maintaining an Israeli presence in the Philadelphi corridor along Gaza's border with Egypt in any ceasefire deal with Hamas. This demand has sparked contention as Hamas seeks a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in exchange for hostages, with Netanyahu emphasizing the importance of this corridor for national security.

On a humanitarian note, Jordan has resumed critical airdrops of aid to Gaza after a two-month hiatus, aiming to reach areas inaccessible by land due to the ongoing conflict. The Jordanian Armed Forces, alongside international cooperation, have been significantly involved, having conducted numerous airdrop missions to support the besieged region.

Lastly, the EU’s Red Sea naval mission Aspides is launching a rescue operation for the oil tanker Sounion, which remains ablaze following a Houthi rebel attack off Yemen's coast. The crew has been rescued, but efforts to control the fires continue as the mission strives to prevent an environmental disaster.
