Ukraine Cancels Parliamentary Session Amid Russian Missile Threat; Global Tensions Escalate

Ukraine's parliament cancels session over heightened threat after Russia's missile and drone attacks. Israeli-Lebanon tensions escalate as clashes with Hezbollah result in casualties amid diplomatic ceasefire efforts.
Ukraine's parliament canceled its session on Friday due to the increased threat level after Russia launched a new ballistic missile and devastating drone attack in Sumy, which resulted in fatalities and injuries. This comes as the Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky visits Kyiv to evaluate the situation firsthand.

Speaking of significant visits, Pope Francis is preparing for a historic trip to Corsica on December 15, where he will address a Mediterranean religious conference. This marks his first visit to the French island, as the local diocese eagerly awaits, despite awaiting official Vatican confirmation.

Meanwhile, tensions are rising in the Middle East as Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon and Beirut have claimed the lives of at least five medics amid heavy clashes with Hezbollah. These developments persist despite diplomatic attempts by US envoy Amos Hochstein to broker a ceasefire in the troubled region.

This intense conflict coincides with fierce battles between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters, especially near the UN peacekeeping bases in Naqoura and Chamaa. Even though UN peacekeepers remain safe, the ongoing skirmishes align with heightened scrutiny of Israeli actions following International Criminal Court warrants for Netanyahu.

In Asia, India's Supreme Court is responding to New Delhi's air pollution crisis by imposing emergency measures, as the city struggles with severe smog and a hazardous Air Quality Index. The court's directives include halting certain vehicular traffic and construction work, as the city battles its worst pollution levels, affecting millions.

On a lighter note in London, the US Embassy is back to normal after a controlled explosion diffused a suspicious package, while Gatwick Airport's south terminal was evacuated due to a separate security alert involving suspicious luggage. These incidents highlight the continued vigilance in major international cities.
