Woman gives birth in the courtyard of Prophet’s Mosque

Woman gives birth in the courtyard of Prophet’s Mosque

Saudi Red Crescent volunteers operating in the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah had the rare experience of delivering a baby when one of the women worshippers developed labor pain in the mosque’s courtyards the other day.
Dr. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Zahrani, Director General of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority’s Madinah branch, said the SRCA volunteer team attached to the ambulance center on the Al-Haram premises managed to help the woman to deliver her baby safely.

Dr. Al-Zahrani pointed out that when the teams arrived at the scene, they found the woman in a critical state as she was about to give birth.

The woman was experiencing contractions, indicating that she was in labor. Her water had broken and the baby's head had already come out, the SRCA team said.

The team swung into action strictly following the protocols in such situations and started to assist the woman to give birth. A health practitioner who was present at the site offered support.

After successfully delivering the baby, the mother and child were transferred to the Bab Jibril Health Center for further checkups, Dr. Al-Zahrani said, adding that such cases required intensive medical care.

He said the team was able to safely deliver the baby because of the specialized medical training they had received as health practitioners.

Dr. Al-Zahrani underlined the importance of alerting the ambulance service in case of any emergency by calling 997. The ambulance service can also be contacted through the Asafny app or the SOS service in the Tawakkalna app. This will help the ambulance team to determine the caller's location with high accuracy and save time and effort in reaching the site and delivering assistance, he added.
