14 Killed as Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon Beyond 'Buffer Zone'

Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon result in casualties, raising concerns over ceasefire violations.
Lebanon's National News Agency reported on Sunday that an airstrike hit the town of Kfar Tebnit in southern Lebanon.

This incident follows a warning from the Israeli army to evacuate not only Kfar Tebnit but also six other villages.

The Israeli military justified these actions as a response to Hezbollah's violation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement.

The Lebanese health ministry confirmed that 14 people were killed, including two women and two children, with an additional 37 individuals sustaining injuries from the attacks.

Earlier reports by the National News Agency indicated that Israeli warplanes targeted a roundabout in Kfar Tebnit, resulting in injuries.

In response to these developments, the Israeli military ordered residents to leave seven towns located beyond the 'buffer zone' previously occupied by Israel before the ceasefire.

This area is situated north of the Litani River and encompasses part of southern Lebanon where Israeli troops remain deployed, despite the ceasefire.

According to an Israeli military spokesperson, Hezbollah has been violating the ceasefire, prompting Israel to take action to protect its security.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed this stance during a cabinet meeting in Jerusalem, emphasizing that Israel's actions align with agreements made with both the United States and Lebanon.

Additionally, the Israeli military intercepted three drones before they could enter Israeli territory after sirens sounded in northern Israel, indicating potential threats.

Earlier on Sunday, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for attacks targeting Israeli troops inside Lebanese territory as well as a rescue force sent to evacuate them.

The US-mediated ceasefire, which commenced on April 16 and has since been extended to mid-May, has led to a significant reduction in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

However, both sides continue to exchange fire, each accusing the other of breaches.

Since the conflict began on March 2, days after the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran, nearly 2,500 individuals have lost their lives due to Israeli strikes.
