PARIS: Jailed Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi is reportedly in a critical state after being hospitalized under guard for the last five days with a heart condition.

Her supporters have expressed deep concern over her rapidly deteriorating health and described her current situation as 'between life and death.'

Chirinne Ardakani, Mohammadi's Paris-based lawyer, stated at a news conference held by her supporters that the 2023 laureate is now facing severe health risks.

Jonathan Dagher from Reporters Without Borders (RSF), which is part of her support committee, emphasized the urgent need for action to prevent a potential fatality.

Mohammadi, who has been imprisoned and released several times over the past two decades due to her activism, was arrested in December after criticizing the Iranian government at a lawyer's funeral.

She has experienced two suspected heart attacks on March 24 and May 1 in Zanjan prison, northern Iran, according to her supporters.

Following the latest incident, Mohammadi was taken to the hospital in Zanjan for treatment but remains under constant guard.

Ardakani highlighted an 'unprecedented degradation' of Mohammadi's health and expressed fear over her potential loss of life at any moment.

Mohammadi has lost 20 kilograms since her imprisonment, struggles with speech difficulties, and is described as being 'unrecognizable' from her previous state before her recent arrest.

Her supporters are advocating for her transfer to Tehran for medical treatment by her personal medical team; however, no movement has been observed regarding this request.

Mohammadi's twin teenage children and husband reside in Paris.

Ardakani urged the French foreign ministry and President Emmanuel Macron to take a stronger stance on Mohammadi's case.

The lawyer emphasized the expectation of Macron taking action over her situation, stating that such measures are not excessive under the circumstances.
