Saudi Arabia Welcomes US Decision to Designate Sudan’s Muslim Brotherhood as Terrorist Organisation

Riyadh praises Washington’s move as a step toward strengthening regional security and countering extremist networks.
Saudi Arabia has welcomed the United States’ decision to designate Sudan’s branch of the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation, describing the move as an important step in confronting extremist groups and safeguarding regional stability.

In an official statement, the Saudi government expressed strong support for the designation, emphasising that coordinated international action is essential to counter organisations that promote extremist ideologies and threaten the security of states across the Middle East and beyond.

The announcement from Washington marks a significant escalation in international pressure on the Sudanese network associated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

United States officials said the designation reflects concerns that elements linked to the group have supported activities that undermine political stability and encourage extremist mobilisation in the region.

Saudi Arabia has long taken a firm stance against organisations it views as promoting political extremism.

Riyadh has consistently warned that movements tied to the Muslim Brotherhood’s ideology have played a destabilising role in several countries, particularly during periods of political upheaval.

Officials in the kingdom noted that international cooperation is essential to prevent extremist groups from exploiting fragile political environments.

By designating Sudan’s Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist entity, the United States has taken a step that Saudi leaders say will strengthen collective efforts to counter violent networks and safeguard regional institutions.

The decision comes at a time when Sudan itself is facing a prolonged internal conflict between rival military factions, which has severely destabilised the country and created conditions that extremist actors could attempt to exploit.

Saudi Arabia has been actively involved in diplomatic initiatives aimed at stabilising Sudan and facilitating negotiations between the warring parties.

Riyadh has hosted several rounds of talks designed to promote ceasefires and humanitarian access while encouraging a long-term political settlement.

By supporting the US designation, Saudi officials signalled their broader commitment to countering extremist movements that threaten security across the Middle East and Africa.

The kingdom reiterated that sustained international coordination remains essential to prevent such groups from gaining influence during times of political turmoil.

Saudi authorities emphasised that the protection of regional stability and the fight against extremism remain central pillars of the kingdom’s foreign policy as it works with partners to promote security and development throughout the region.
