Turkey and Saudi Arabia have signed a landmark agreement to jointly develop five gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, marking one of the most significant cross-border clean energy partnerships in the region.
The deal, announced following high-level talks between officials and energy executives from both countries, will begin with an initial phase focused on deploying two gigawatts of large-scale solar photovoltaic capacity.
The agreement brings together Turkish engineering and project development expertise with Saudi Arabia’s financial capacity and long-term energy strategy.
The first phase will prioritise utility-scale solar projects, with site selection, grid integration and financing structures already under active discussion.
Construction is expected to begin once regulatory approvals and technical assessments are finalised.
Officials from both sides said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to accelerating the energy transition while strengthening economic ties.
For Saudi Arabia, the project supports its Vision 2030 agenda to diversify energy sources, reduce reliance on hydrocarbons and expand domestic renewable capacity.
Turkey, meanwhile, sees the deal as an opportunity to internationalise its renewable energy sector and showcase its capabilities in solar project development and execution.
Beyond the initial solar rollout, the broader five-gigawatt framework leaves room for additional renewable technologies, including wind power and energy storage, depending on market conditions and system needs.
The agreement also includes provisions for technology transfer, workforce training and cooperation between private sector companies in both countries.
