No Reduction in Gaza Hunger Since Truce: WHO
The World Health Organization reports no improvement in aid entering Gaza since the ceasefire and warns of ongoing famine conditions.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that there has been little improvement in the amount of aid entering Gaza since a ceasefire took hold on October 10.
According to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the situation remains 'catastrophic' as the amount of aid entering the region is insufficient.
Since the start of 2025, 411 people have died from malnutrition in Gaza, including 109 children, according to Richard Peeperkorn, WHO's representative in the Palestinian territories.
Over 600,000 people are currently facing 'catastrophic levels of food insecurity,' with only between 200 and 300 trucks entering daily, many of which are commercial.
This reduces the number of beneficiaries able to access aid.
WHO has also reported that 89 people have been killed and over 317 wounded since the ceasefire took hold.
The health system in Gaza has been severely damaged during Israel's two-year war, with a total rebuild cost estimated at $7 billion.
Currently, only 14 out of 36 hospitals are functioning, and there are critical shortages of essential medicines, equipment, and healthcare workers.
WHO is sending more medical supplies to hospitals, deploying additional emergency medical teams, and working to scale up medical evacuations since the ceasefire.
On Wednesday alone, WHO facilitated the evacuation of 41 patients and 145 companions.
However, around 15,000 patients still require treatment outside Gaza, including 4,000 children.
WHO has called on more countries to receive patients from Gaza for specialized care and urged Israel to open all crossings to enable further aid and medical evacuations.
The delay in medical evacuation could lead to deaths while waiting, with over 700 people having already died while awaiting evacuation since the start of the war.
