The Sudanese military has accepted a UN proposal for a weeklong ceasefire in El Fasher to facilitate aid delivery, amid ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises.
Sudan’s military agreed to a proposal from the United Nations for a weeklong ceasefire in El Fasher, according to sources close to the situation.
This decision comes as the country continues to reel from intensified conflicts that have displaced millions and pushed parts of the nation into famine.
The agreement also includes provisions for the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, although it remains unclear if the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) will follow suit.
UN Secretary-General
António Guterres emphasized the critical nature of this humanitarian truce in El Fasher, a city under military control and a focal point for recent violence and displacement.
The ceasefire is seen as a crucial step toward alleviating the dire conditions faced by millions across Sudan.
