The Palestinian human rights organization Al-Mezan has highlighted the issue of enforced disappearance as a prominent concern in its latest report on Israel's treatment of Palestinians during ongoing conflict.
In a statement marking the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, Al-Mezan accused Israeli forces of engaging in mass arbitrary arrests since October 2023.
According to the organization, these actions have led to thousands of Palestinians being subjected to degrading treatment and held in secret detention without any disclosure of their fate or whereabouts by the Israeli authorities.Al-Mezan described enforced disappearance as a 'continuous crime' that inflicts immense psychological and emotional trauma on the families of victims who are left with no knowledge of whether their loved ones are alive.
The organization further criticized Israel for blocking access to detainees for international bodies such as the International Committee of the Red Cross and restricting monitoring efforts by human rights groups, actions deemed in violation of international law.The report called for a global campaign to raise awareness about enforced disappearances among Palestinians and urged the international community to exert pressure on Israel.
