Israel Expands Mitzpe Yeshai Settlement on Palestinian Land near Qalqilya

Israeli authorities approve the construction of 58 new housing units at the Mitzpe Yeshai settlement, confiscating land from the Palestinian village of Kafr Qaddum.
On Sunday, Israeli authorities sanctioned a plan to seize 35 dunams (9 acres) of land from the Palestinian village of Kafr Qaddum, situated in the occupied northern West Bank, near Qalqilya.

The Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission reported this move, which entails the construction of 58 new housing units at the Mitzpe Yeshai settlement.

Established on the territory of Kafr Qaddum, this development contravenes international law and UN resolutions concerning Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories, a violation that impedes the realization of a Palestinian state. In early September, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich unveiled plans to annex 82% of the West Bank, effectively extinguishing prospects for achieving the two-state solution.

Following this announcement, since October 7, 2023, there have been over 38,000 attacks by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank, including 767 cases of fires being deliberately set on Palestinian homes and lands.

Additionally, more than 1,000 structures—homes and agricultural facilities—have been destroyed through demolitions that displaced 33 Palestinian Bedouin communities and facilitated the establishment of 114 new settler outposts. The Israeli military's imposition of over 900 permanent and temporary checkpoints throughout the West Bank severely restricts movement.

Official Palestinian figures indicate that at least 1,048 Palestinians have lost their lives to Israeli gunfire since October 2023, with more than 10,300 injured in the same period.

This continued expansion and violation of Palestinian land by Israeli settlements underscore the complex and contentious nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
